I feel a quickening these days, an awakening and a
surge of life coming into all aspects of our earth
life experience. It feels as though miracles are
everywhere. In my minds eye, I delight in knowing
that all is well, even when it appears that things
are accelerating in a downward spiral. There is
always a gift in everything, in every circumstance.
Won't you join me in choosing the very frequency of
goodness and what is preferred in every now moment?
The fun has truly just begun. I hope that this month
is as fascinating to you as the first rays of life
of a newborn babe.
Peace!
Laura

Raw Interview: Zack Talks About Live Foods and Consciousness
"I wanted to eat from a tree, not a factory." ~Zack
Here’s an interview with living and raw foodist Zack
from Virginia Beach. Zack has a lot to offer to help
us all shift in an upwardly spiraling way that is
truly refreshing, profound and genuine. Thanks,
Zack!
LAURA: How did you find out about raw
foods?
ZACK: Well, at the time I was heavily unaware of
what for Godsake is a natural diet. I was not in the
least bit aware! It's all about exposure, really. It
just takes being exposed to raw foods, and that to
me is the blessing of what occurred in my life. It
was simple, really. I heard of this man who didn't
cook his broccoli, or anything for that matter, and
it churned some curiosity in me. I had said some
time briefly before that I wanted to eat from a
tree, not a factory. And, well, you know how the
universe is within us and we make consciousness
happen on the physical plane. So then I heard of
this man whom I am friends with now, and also saw a
book many others know of called Raw Family!.
I picked it up and read it quickly along with
several other like-minded books on raw diet. And the
rest was history.
LAURA: What spurred you on to try raw foodism
as a lifestyle?
ZACK: I immediately began to learn more about
this
knowledge, this awareness, and was on the course of
filtering out of my diet all inorganics, all
chemicalized stuff. I soon adopted 100% raw, quite
soon after reading ‘Raw Family.’ Yet it was too
quick a movement, because my body was severely
entrenched in nasty material and in a very
degenerated condition (called normal actually in the
community). I went through much of the detox
experiences, emotionally and spiritually as well as
physically. I knew what I was doing was perfect as
my soul sung deeply from the healing I was
experiencing. I had intense craving however, so
after four months of forging along and doing the
yo-yo thing of rawfoodism and binging, I decided it
wasn't natural and I learned I didn't need to
experience the agitation that the intense cravings
were causing me. (That was my experience then, yet
now it simply is a part of my being naturally). I
gave it a break and said, okay, let's indulge in
things I have been ripping away from my body, yet
let them be more refined like vegan ice cream and
noodles and 'healthy' breads and vegan chocolate
milks, etc. lol! I just wanted to get it out of my
system and move with Endryas—the god of the
senses—and flow into
rawfoodism instead of fighting my way into it. You
see, all that you want comes well in 'time' and
proceeds in a way of perfection just so long as you
strongly intend it. Just by detoxing the body and
bringing in more live food, and also being aware
that you want to move more and more into refinement,
the transition occurs naturally because your
consciousness programs the body and the sublevel
thinking according to those desires. So finally, I
was done and ready to stop letting the dna
degenerate further with the cooked diet lacking in
any real essences and quality nutriment... so I went
on a fast down a river in Georgia and came back to
Virginia at the end of the 6 day fast. I had some
more of that ice cream and noodles and it made me
feel nasty so that was that. I was done with the
stuff. I experienced everything I needed to
experience, and adopted live food completely. This
time it was soooooo much easier! I had been using
more rawfoods and detoxing and saturating the body
with nutrients. This makes it easier.
LAURA: How has eating more raw foods helped
you personally- physically- consciously-
spiritually?
ZACK: When I began with raw living as I said
before,
I was becoming more aware and becoming more
sensitive. My soul was calling from deep within to
heal. It was time to move on and stop living the
lifestyle I was of alcohol, cigarettes, sweets, junk
fast food, marijuana, etcetera, and being in an
aggressive stagnant daily environment. I called from
deep within to move, to get things going and get on
my soul path. Such a blessing that was because I had
been trying to stop those addictive habits for some
time and at the same point my body wouldn't let me
have any more of that stuff. It had just gone too
far I guess because I couldn't drink or smoke
anything any more. My body had forced me to stop and
at the same time, I was exposed to the raw diet, so
it all streamed together as if these different
forces lined up and moved in a parallel direction
with each other. And when this began I was releasing
some things and would just look around and cry
because I'd see beauty in something and felt a
connection to nature.
Truly the raw diet, if anything, is medicine to the
soul. It brings the essence of who we are more in
our bodies, more in the earth, in this world. Look
into a raw foodist’s eyes—you can see it. Eating
from the Earth directly you take the life of it into
you, the Earthly life and the solar life. This
stimulates many things in a person's consciousness
and initiates subtle yet strongly felt shifts in the
field of an individual. The processed foods of
civilization creates a lot of unnecessary blockage
in the body.
The way to Enlightenment I believe
is simply a matter of becoming clear. When we are
clear we are naturally who we are. And the lifeless,
low vibrating foods from factories and restaurants
clogs the body up and creates disconnection from
nature, from life, from ourselves. I am not speaking
philosophically, I am speaking from direct
experience and observation.
LAURA: What do you think is the greatest
benefit of eating raw?
ZACK: The physical vessel is interpenetrated
by many
other vessels through which we experience life on
many dimensions. When the temple of this 3-d realm
is not correctly used, it causes many effects in
these various bodies. Truly the most magnificent
benefit is the natural dawning and unfoldment of
more awareness and sensitivity. The masculine
becomes more balanced with the feminine, you become
more aware of cause and effect, you experience more
and more the desires of your own soul.
LAURA: If someone wanted to go raw but was
having trepidation about it, feeling like they were
walking off the social cliff, feeling scared of
leaving the old behind, feeling attached to those
dunkin' donuts, what would you say to them to
inspire them to follow their raw inclinations?
ZACK: I know for myself only what has been my
guiding light. I have felt that what I am choosing
to do is the greatest thing I can do for myself, so
why should I be too concerned with social constructs
or social reality? It just doesn't weigh up to it.
Besides what one does for themselves, which they
know is in alignment with their own truth, they also
do for the world. Even when others are upset with
you, you can be giving them a blessing in their
life. And really a lot of things have been shifting
as more and more people have gone raw. It is
changing things. Many are feeling, as more go raw,
this drive in their own consciousness like a pulse
going through the collective mind, the unified field
of humanity. It is only a matter of 'time.’ Soon,
many will wake into their own unfoldment and desire
to transition into this lifestyle, too. I say,
follow the inclination. Follow the pulse. Live your
light. It may be hard at times. But it is just a
shadow compared to the light that you bring out of
yourself by investing in your self not in social
constructs.
LAURA: What was your biggest challenge in
eating more raw?
ZACK: The cravings at first were quite irritating
and disempowering. I still get them having lived for
18 years on degenerated "food" and being still
surrounded by that in my life, but it just doesn't
have the energy of impetus that it used to, so I
know that when I have the cravings, I can satisfy
the senses with some very delicious raw foods, too.
LAURA: What are your latest raw intentions,
and how do you plan on fulfilling them?
ZACK: I intend NOW to live wildly and more fully
connect with spirit and become more "uncivilized.”
This includes finding somewhere with clean waters
and wild foods, and being guided by the Mother in
how to move in and out of beingness with the
elements and the plants and being guided and shown
how to live in this way.
And I then intend to
live amongst a community of friends that share
similar attitudes in blissful creation. But I am
allowing that to line up in my inner nature, because
building community may be not in the manner of time
as I perceive it.
LAURA: Does your community support you
locally? Are there other raw foodists around?
ZACK: I live in Virginia Beach right now and
have a
few raw friends. We are getting more of that vibe
here, and a health store now has quite a selection
of raw products.
LAURA: Are you into cleansing?
ZACK: Very much. Life is a mirror. We are the
universe, always reflecting back to ourselves,
becoming clearer and clearer. We inevitably arrive
fully into Clearness.
LAURA: What is your favorite raw food? And is
there anything else you want to share?
ZACK: I just feel it is important for others
to take
it easy on themselves when they have come to feel
raw and living foodism is also what they want. After
doing their homework and reading at least several
books on this subject, it is vital to not judge
or condemn ourselves any times that we are not
moving as quickly as we'd like. It all serves us.
Slipping is just as divine as walking perfectly.
LAURA: Wow. There is a lot of deep raw wisdom
in this writing. Thank you, Zack. Peace!
Accupuncturist Debbie Farley, L. Ac., Shares Ancient Herbal Wisdom
Laura's Note: Many people who are into
raw and living foods have started exploring the
Chinese Herbs as superfood additions to the diet.
These herbs help the healing process in many ways.
Explore and have fun!
1. GINSENG: Ren Shen
is Pinyin for Radix
Ginseng however there are many different varieties
and the name of the herb in Pinyin is different
based on which part of the plant is used, the type
of Ginseng being used, where it is grown and how it
is prepared. Ginseng is used in TCM to tonify the
Qi (Chee) energy of the body. It is usually
decocted to extract the properties. Ginseng helps
with breathing problems, digestive problems,
lethargy, diabetes, anxiety, insomnia, memory and
restlessness. Ginseng contains sucrose, fructose,
glucose, maltose, riboflavin, and thiamine. In
large doses it can also cause anxiety, restlessness,
and insomnia. Research has shown that it is
effective in reducing the effects of stress, helps
to strengthen the body’s immune system, helps with
peptic ulcers, and fatigue. This herb is very
expensive. Xi Yang Shen is Pinyin for American
Ginseng root the pharmaceutical name is Radix
Panacis Quinquefolii. American ginseng is not as
strong as Radix Ginseng, it helps the body to
recover after illness, strengthens the immune
system, protects against radiation, and helps to
strengthen the adrenal and reproductive systems. Contains Calcium, fiber, folate, iron, magnesium,
potassium, zinc, Vitamins B1, B2, B3, B5 and C.
2. CODONOPSIS ROOT: Dang Shen is the pinyin
name. Dang Shen works the same as ginseng but it is
not as strong. Because ginseng is so expensive it
is used in place of ginseng in some Chinese
formulas. Dang Shen contains sucrose, glucose, and
alkaloids. Research shows increases in red blood
cell counts and hemoglobin, lowered blood pressure,
helps with fatigue, and that it can cause
stimulatory effect.
3. GINGER: Depending on how the herb is
prepared and what part of the plant is used, it will
be given a different name in Pinyin and it will also
have different properties and actions. Sheng Jiang
is the raw fresh ginger root, it is used to help
alleviate cold symptoms by promoting sweating,
relieving fever, stops coughing and relieves
congestion. Helps with digestive issues such as
vomiting and nausea and strengthens the immune
system. Used to reduce toxicity of other herbs in
Chinese formulas. Research shows that it helps with
bacillary dysentery. The skin of the root can be
used for edema and to promote urination. Gan Jiang
is ginger root that has been dried. Drying the root
increases the warming properties. Ginger contains
amino acids, calcium, essential fatty acids, iron,
magnesium, potassium, selenium, zinc. Vitamins B1,
B2, B3, B6 and C. Ground ginger has Vitamin A
4. CHINESE ANGELICA ROOT: Dong Gui is the
pinyin name for the root. This herb is also usually
used as a decoction. In TCM this herb is most often
used in women’s formulas because it is a blood tonic
and helps to regulate hormones. It can also helps
to relieve constipation, and is used to treat sores.
Dong Gui contains Calcium, folate, iron, magnesium,
phosphorous, potassium, selenium, zinc, carotene,
sucrose, Vitamins B1, B2, B5, B12, and C. Research
shows a mild sedative effect, produced good results
in reducing pain from arthritis, and that there is
an antibiotic effect.
5. GOJI: Gou Qi Zi is the pinyin name for
the Chinese Wolfberry fruit, it is also known as
matrimony vine fruit. The fruit helps nourish the
blood and can be used for sore back and legs,
low-grade abdominal pain, impotence, diabetes, and
with vision problems such as blurred vision and dry
eyes. Helps with some cancers. Goji contains
carotene, thiamine, riboflavin, vitamin C and
linoleic acid. Research studies have shown that it
helps as a liver cleanser and can cause a reduction
in blood pressure.
6. HE SHOU WU: The English translation is
“black-haired Mr. He”. He Shou Wu nourishes the
blood and helps with premature gray hair, insomnia,
constipation, skin rashes, and goiter. He Shou Wu
contains lecithin. Research shows that it helps to
reduce cholesterol, works in the treatment of
malaria, and has an antibiotic effect.
7. CORDYCEPS: The pinyin name is Dong Chong
Xia Cao it helps with impotence, protects the lung,
and increases oxygen in the cells and blood. Research has shown an antibiotic effect. It
contains B12. The herb is very expensive in part
because it is the fungus and carcass of a Chinese
caterpillar.
8. ASTRAGALUS: The pinyin name is Huang Qi,
the English name is milk-vetch root. This herb
works to build the immune system. It helps with
digestion, healing of sores, fatigue, diabetes, and
it can have a diuretic effect. Also helpful to
prevent cancers. Research shows that it can help to
lower blood pressure. Contains Calcium, choline,
copper, essential fatty acids, iron, magnesium,
potassium, and zinc.
9. JUJUBE aka CHINESE DATE: The pinyin name
is Da Zao. It helps with the qi and blood of the
body and is used for digestive weaknesses. Used in
some Chinese formulas to help make them more
digestible and not as harsh on the body. Contains
Vitamin A, Vitamin B2, Vitamin C, Calcium,
Phosphorous and Iron.
10. SCHISANDRA: The pinyin name is Wu Wei
Zi. Helps with chronic coughs, diarrhea, excess
sweating, night sweats, and can help with diabetes
when combined with other herbs. Also helps with
insomnia, and to improve liver function with people
that have Hepatitis B. Contains Vitamin C and
Vitamin E.
11. REISHI MUSHROOM: Known as Ganoderma, it
is not listed in the Chinese Herbal Material Medica
but is listed in other sources. It is used as a
general tonic to protect the immune system, recover
from illness, surgery, and childbirth. It is also
used as a tonic in Cancer or Aids patients. Helps
with altitude sickness because it helps to oxygenate
the blood. The Japanese have researched the
mushroom and they are the ones that gave it the name
Reishi. It is used in Japan to not only help
prevent cancer but to help with the effects of
chemotherapy and radiation treatments. It has also
been noted to help with sleep apnea, lower
cholesterol and to help regulate the blood pressure.
Fatty
Acids feed the brain, nourish the nervous system, and maintain the
integrity of all body tissues. The high omega-3 fatty acids also have
anti-inflammatory abilities.
My young friend and aspiring raw food teacher Alex
Horton, who has been vigorously studying and
experiencing the raw vegetarian lifestyle for the
past six months, shared a nice idea with me about
how to get the most from our essential fatty
acids.
He says, "The thing about flax seeds is
that they are medium chain fatty acids. In order for
your body to be able to use them, it has to convert
the medium chain fatty acids to long chain fatty
acids. Not everyone has the magnesium reserves and
other nutrient co-factors in the body to be able to
make this conversion. However, coconut oil, when
combined with these fats, increases your absorption
rate dramatically."
For flax seeds to be
effective as a source of omega-3's, they should be
ground up. It is worth noting too that the oils are
much more absorbable for some people. Hemp seeds,
too, offer omega-3's and even omega-6's. The balance
of the oils in hemp is structured in the way the
body likes and can use it best, so hemp is
incredibly good for us, whether in seed or oil form.
The oil of
hemp is also more absorbable. As raw vegans, we
should be aware of 'what's going on with our fat
intake.' We need to make sure we are getting the
essential fatty acids.
A good recipe to try
is:
1 cup cold pressed coconut oil
1/2 cup
hemp seed oil
1/2 cup flax seed oil
Blend
these oils in your blender or vitamix, or simply
combine them by stirring. Store in the fridge in,
preferably, a container. Use a tablespoon a day or
more as a supplement either just eating it off the
spoon or adding it to smoothies, soups, etcetera.
Make sure the flax and hemp oils are cold-pressed
and as fresh as possible. Typically, flax oil will
be found in the refrigerated section of your health
food stores supplement area. If it is not
refrigerated, do not buy it. Hemp is also a pretty
delicate oil so get it fresh and if possible,
refrigerated. Coconut oil, however, is the most
stable oil and does not need to be found in the
refrigerator section.
As a side note, coconut oil
is the best oil to cook with if you or friends are
still cooking foods. It does not turn carcinogenic
and toxic as easily as the other oils. When oils
brown, they are toxic.

Thirty years ago, I ate a Macrobiotic Diet. And the
readings of George
Oshawa, founder of Macrobiotics said, 'Macrobiotics
is really about freedom.'
As in many formal organizations the true message
gets diluted along the way
like the old game of telephone we played as
children. Raw Foods is similar.
I believe when one does certain things from a mental
level it is chaos and
unproductive. I never tell anyone I am a raw
foodist. For I am not. I am
a Soul inhabiting a physical body and in the last
few years I've gravitated
to eating virtually all food in a raw state.
And I never even say that unless someone asks.
In my opinion, what matters here in the physical is
understanding who we are,
why we are, where we are and what the heck are we
doing here. And most
importantly, asking the question, how can we
possibly help out other Souls who ask for assistance.
I was told this by one of my teachers. I'll
paraphrase here: "...If love compels
you to share, you tell people what they ask about
Truth, and that's all. You don't
tell them more that they ask, because then you're
moving out of the love
state..."
As I mentioned in the last issue, my intention is to
eat all green until the Raw Spirit Fest! So far, my
desire to eat all green has allowed me to eat way
more green than I usually do.
When we were in the
huckleberry fields of Washington State, I did eat a
lot of huckleberries, as well as the huckleberry
leaves, which are certainly green. I felt like a
little deer there, nibbling the leaves right off of
the bushes!
As I'm releasing other foods for the
time being, I am having to go through a little
mental-emotional letting go. But, I'm proud of
myself!
I see and know that I will be on a
nine-day green juice fast starting, let's see, let's
start it on Sunday, September 3, right after the
first Richmond Raw Potluck! Richmond
Raw & Living Foods Meetup
Might as well
not "tempt
goddess." I'm definitely going to enjoy the yummy
raw dishes everyone shares at the potluck!
The Raw Spirit Festival~A High Vibrational Celebration!

vibrational opportunity to meet new friends, play
like never before, enjoy three full days of
delicious raw meals (including breakfast for three
hundred made by yours truly), and more fun than
humans have formerly been allowed to have -- not to
mention a plethora of presenters and musical
appearances!
Here's what Happy suggests you bring:
a friend

a sleeping bag (unless you prefer to make hotel
arrangements)
a towel
fresh flowers
yoga mats
a drum for the circle
a flute for the night
for the show, your talent
a headlamp for light
a palate for fresh foods
a hunger to learn
curiosity
an offering
encouraging words
The Raw Spirit Festival is also an opportunity to
practice Visionary Stewardship! I will be giving two
brief talks, one on Sustainability and one on
Visionary Stewardship, and a Sunday Anchor the Dream
Workshop.
"I'm about cultivating leaders. People want this information. They need it. You can teach it." ~Laura Fox
Behind everything I am up to ~ traditional thai yoga

That aim is to
cultivate leaders, leaders like you, who care about
people and planet.
The living foods lifestyle and
diet increases awareness about sustainable living.
It increases the probability for folks leading a
happy, healthy life, and increases our innate sense
of connectedness and genuine well-being.
My
observation of this "trend" of raw and living
foodism over the last five years is demonstrating to
me that more and more people are
wanting~needing~seeking out this previsiously
'secret' way of eating and living. It is time to
cultivate leaders who can help take the once very
secluded information to the public ~ a public
desperate for true guidance on self care and care of
family, friends, children, pets.
If you feel at
all guided and inspired to share raw wisdom with
others, please contact me to discuss your entry into
the Raw Inspirations Chef & Instructor Certification
Program. It will be my honor and privilege to give
you all I've got and more on your path to your true
expression of leadership in your own, perfect way.
